God has used all of the previous teams to help create a hunger from our friends in Cabana to know about The Bible so that they can have a relationship with God. They want to know the truth and they believe that they can find that truth in the Bible.
We had our first group meeting on Tuesday. Eight of our friends attended. We used The Story evangelism outline with the hope that they will learn to see God's redeeming work at work in the Bible stories but also in their own lives. We discuss a Bible story by using 5 questions that will help teach them how to study on their own.
On Tuesday night we had six in attendance but 4 of the people were new. On Wednesday night we had 14 attend with 5 of those being a Quechua family and their two neighbors who had heard about what was happening and wanted to see for themselves. Each night our discussions and methods improved.
Please continue to pray for our friends Manuel, Edgar, David, Eufrasina, Deysi, Rosendo and Irene as they study God's Word. Pray for Anthony and Merly - that God will use our team to build relationships through these two young people with hopes of engaging the youth of Cabana.
Continue to pray for our team. They have a little more than two weeks left in the village. They will need God's help to keep them strong spiritually and physically. They are an amazing group of people!
Thanks for your prayers and encouragement. God's glory is being revealed in Cabana.Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-86471726123903800952012-07-02T11:00:00.000-04:002012-07-02T11:00:07.405-04:00God is at work!God is at work!

It is impossible to post all about God´s activity from yesterday. It was a full day of experiencing His leading. We know this is true because the events of yesterday were not in our daily plan.

We walked to the plaza in hopes of seeing some of our friends. We had barely sat down when David walked into the plaza. We spent time with him at his guinea pig farm and then setup a time to meet with him that evening to study the Bible. Catherine, Abbie and Kelly (one of our interpreter team members) met during the afternoon with our friend Irene. During that time we were able to visit briefly with Edgar. The guys on the team met with David in his house to study. We did not bring a study Bible with us but asked him to return to the hostel with us to meet Edgar and Manuel. From that moment things got very exciting. The three of them met and discussed with us their desire to study together even when we are not in Cabana. Edgar is such a leader. He understands what we are hoping for even as he is seeking to understand the Gospel. He said that the three of them along with Deysi and Irene need to start meeting together while we are here and then continue studying together after we leave. We brought some study Bibles with us and they are all excited about the help that they will have to study. Edgar said the time for them to meet together is now because the harvest is ready to be reaped. Amazing...
Our team members are doing great spiritually and physically. It is exciting to watch each person step into the work. The team depth is wonderful.

This morning we are going to visit the high school. Our great hope is that the young people on our team can help us engage the youth community here in Cabana. We are praying for open doors into the school so that our team members can teach the Bible through teaching English. Imagine them using these days to teach The Story evangelism to the students. Good stuff!
God is really at work in the hearts of our friends that live in Cabana. We are all very excited to imagine what is happening with our Peru Team #2 that is in the village this week. Last night the team was going to have a Bible study with Edgar following up with what we had discussed last week. David and Allyson worked hard to find materials that could be translated into Spanish so that they could help answer Edgar's questions.

We continue to pray for David, Eric and Alexis as they seek to make disciples in Cabana. We spent the first part of the day saying goodbye to our friends and to the place that they call home. It was very encouraging to tell them that there is another team coming to Cabana on Friday. They were also excited to hear about our summer team that will spend three weeks in Peru this July.

It is amazing how much these folks remember about our previous teams. They remember the people - they ask about many by names and share stories. Many times on this trip we heard folks call team members their friends. They wish we were here more...

All of the team members have done wonderful. Everybody handled the trip well. We experimented with a new travel plan on this trip and it has worked wonderfully. If things progress like we think it will then we will gain about 2 days in the village on each trip compared to what we are during currently. That will make a huge difference!

We had some very great Bible studies and times of prayer with our friends. Thanks for all of your prayers - God has been so faithful every step of this journey. Please continue to pray for Manuel, Edgar, Louisa, Irene and Aldo. As we were getting ready to leave yesterday we met a man named David who has recently moved to Cabana from Lima. We are praying that the next team can spend time with him - he seemed to be very open to studying the Bible with them.

We made it to Nazca last night and will finish the travel to Lima today. We should arrive at the hotel around 9PM tonight.Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-28952046833510523882012-03-17T20:59:00.002-04:002012-03-17T21:03:41.737-04:00A great day...Our team has experienced one of the best days so far in our Peruvian partnership. We "ran" into some friends by "chance" and had two great conversations with men that we believe are seeking God's truth. Aldo was a man that we met last fall. He was leaving early this morning so we spent time with him over breakfast. To hear him say that Pastor Darren's conversation with him on our last trip helped him feel like he is getting closer to God confirms to us that God indeed is at work in the lives of our friends here. Edgar continues to seek the truth about God and continues to ask that someone teach him the Bible. So... tomorrow we will have our first Bible study with Edgar.

It is such a privilege to be here. There are many challenging moments but God always shows Himself to be in control. Thank you for your prayers.Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-3354457577931969482012-03-16T19:28:00.003-04:002012-03-16T19:34:16.235-04:00In Cabana! Our team has arrived safely today. Everyone is doing well. Without question the travel plan we used on this trip has been the best. It is amazing to realize how much we learn from each trip that helps us on the next trip. We learn from the people who have helped us and have gone before us. We are grateful for all of the help we have received over the years. It makes days like today happen.

Our team has already had some good reunions with our friends here. There are always surprises about who is here and who is not. Our friend Manuel will not be here this week. We do, however, already have some Bible study times scheduled. Our van driver, Roberto, is a believer and we found out that he will be the driver for each of our teams.

Thanks for the prayers. It has already made a difference. We would like for you to pray that we have a quick adjustment to the altitude (around 12,000 feet) so that we can get around good tomorrow. We hope to find Edgar soon so we can continue our relationship with him.

We will post more tomorrow - if the internet is working.Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-17519013692309004252012-03-16T06:57:00.002-04:002012-03-16T07:06:02.556-04:00The Big Bus was smooth... the little van will be bumpyWe made it to Nazca a little after 10 last night. We will leave at 7AM this morning for Cabana. It usually takes about 7 hours to complete this leg of the trip. This is the difficult part of the trip - we will climb at times above 16,000 feet and then finish at around 12,000. The roads at times are more like back country dirt roads -- the very bumpy type. They are finishing the rainy season and this is the earliest in the year we have been to Peru. We are not sure what conditions the roads will be in but we know that it is going to be cold and rainy every day. Most of the time we will be in temperatures in the 40s with rain. It will get into the 50s during the days - when the sun arrives.

Please be praying for us to be where God wants us to be during the days - we are excited to see our friends and we pray that God helps us to effectively communicate His story to the people of Cabana.

Our internet service in Cabana will not be as consistent as we have had up to this point but we will post something as often as we can. Everyone is doing well on the team. It will be exciting to see how God uses each member for His glory. Have a great day!Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-9392172337525224222012-03-15T10:40:00.003-04:002012-03-15T10:45:37.363-04:00Gettting ready for the big bus ride...Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-92091146200704970362012-03-15T07:25:00.002-04:002012-03-15T07:38:11.627-04:00Here in Lima only for a momentOur team had the kind of day yesterday that is desired when you are making the journey from Ocala to Lima - uneventful. It was a normal travel day for a Peru team: early morning ride to the airport, long waits for departing flights, sitting still before take off for over an hour and then arriving an hour late into Lima. We arrived at our hotel around midnight.

This morning we will meet with the International Mission Board missionaries during breakfast. We will meet our interpreter, grab some supplies from the grocery store and then head to the bus station. We will get to Nazca around 9PM and enjoy knowing that we are about halfway to Cabana. Tomorrow morning we will leave early in a van that will take us the rest of the way up the mountains.

Please be praying for us - this is a busy day of pulling together the logistics here in Peru.

Our team is incredible. We had lots of laughs yesterday. Nathan was the lucky guy to get the extra security scans in Orlando and in Lima. Larry has this new jacket with 50 pockets on it so of course he could not find his passport when we got in the TSA security line. No kidding - he had his jacket on the floor looking through every pocket for about 5 minutes only to find that his passport was in its usual place - his shirt pocket! It was a classic moment that we are sure to help him remember over the years. Lauren was laughing the entire way to the hotel yesterday because of the way that the Peruvians drive... wait until she sees it in the daylight! :)

We appreciate your prayers -- it is a privilege to be here to share God's story with the people of Peru.Kevin Kitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16172880349061423007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-24252702076797603182012-03-14T05:42:00.002-04:002012-03-14T05:49:40.044-04:00Peru team leaving Ocala today! Thanks for joining us on another trip to Cabana, Peru.

We have a team of four that will be joined by an interpreter in Lima. We have already experienced God's provisions as we have made the journey here to Cabana. Our trip could not have been any easier - well a helicopter would help here. It was a very different experience arriving in a large minivan instead of on the combi. We have made arrangements for the same driver to bring us back to Nazca on Tuesday. God has basically given us an extra day here in Cabana because of the time that we arrived yesterday.
All of the team did great during the bus ride. Our sons have been incredible. We did not hear a single complaint from them since we left Ocala. Once we arrived here in Cabana we realized early on that God is going to use the boys to build bridges into the lives of the people here. The boys have already begun to make friendships with other boys, too. Last night they sat at a table with a Peruvian boy and spoke to him through one of our interpreters. It was awesome to see them interact!
Today we will meet with our friend Luisa who was baptized in 2009. We will meet this evening with Irene who agreed to let us come to her restaurant and have a Bible study. Please pray for us as we seek to communicate with them about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus.

Cabana has a new mayor. We are excited to meet with him tomorrow. We have already developed a relationship with his family. Romer is his son and he was one of the first boys that we met when we arrived in 2008.

Thanks for your encouragement and more importantly your prayers. Please pray that God puts us in the paths of the people that he wants us to meet this week.
If you see our families - hug on them and let them know that their boys miss them!

What an answer to prayer! We (the moms) were a little nervous about the Combi ride up the mountain from Puquio to Cabana. However, they found a minivan to take the whole team instead of the Combi. Yay! The same driver might even be able to pick them up for the return trip.

Word from the team is that everyone is doing great. Stay tuned!FBC Ocala Missionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16421813071695805086noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7800503130432499788.post-6056725552805489912011-10-06T18:05:00.002-04:002011-10-06T18:06:06.259-04:00

Puquio around 8AM. Please pray that we get a connecting ride to our village
very soon after we arrive because we will still have about 4 hours of travel
left to enjoy. Those 4 hours will be the longest of the journey.

They have been reestablishing contacts, tracking down information and encouraging the handful of believers in Cabana. Today, we send a team of 8 to meet with them in Lima tomorrow. David and Larry will journey home late tomorrow night and this team of 8 will head to Cabana to continue the work.

Please pray for these men that have gone already and those going today. Please also remember their families here in Ocala. Here is a pic of David & Larry. When possible, the team leaving today will post to this blog. Please leave them a comment to encourage them. We will do our best to post the comments as soon as we can.FBC Ocala Missionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16421813071695805086noreply@blogger.com1
